Seit 1999 begleitet mich ein Schachbrett auf meinen Reisen durch die Welt. An Orten fernab vom Alltag habe ich es aufgebaut – still, allein, als stilles Zeichen. Keine Spieler, keine Zuschauer – nur das Schachbrett, die Figuren, der Raum und die Zeit. Es ist ein Spiel ohne Spiel. Ein Symbol, das Fragen stellt: nach Ordnung und Chaos, nach Gegensätzen, nach Balance. Das Schachbrett wird zur Projektionsfläche für Gedanken – ein ruhiger Ort, an dem Kunst und Sehnsucht nach Frieden ineinanderfließen.In der Leere entsteht Bedeutung. Jeder Platz, an dem das Brett oder eine Figur stand erzählt seine eigene Geschichte – leise, aber deutlich. Es geht nicht um Sieg oder Niederlage.

In places far from the noise of daily life, I have set it up—quietly, alone, as a silent marker. No players, no spectators—just the board, the pieces, the space, and time.It is a game without a game. A symbol that poses questions: about order and chaos, opposites, and balance. The chessboard becomes a canvas for thought—a quiet space where art and the longing for peace converge.In stillness, meaning emerges. Each location where the board was placed tells its own story—softly, yet clearly. It is not about winning or losing. It is about presence.

Through this series, I want to bring together the realism of photography with the imaginative storytelling of manga, creating a powerful visual narrative that speaks to the heart of human emotions and struggles.
Each image captures moments of tranquility and liberation, whether it's the calm of a peaceful landscape or the inspiring journey of individuals fighting for their freedom. The manga elements add a layer of fantasy and hope, illustrating that peace and freedom are not just ideals, but achievable dreams that everyone can work towards.
In a world where conflict and injustice are ever-present, "Photo Meets Manga" serves as a reminder that peace is not just the absence of war but the presence of harmony, understanding, and mutual respect. Freedom, too, is not just about individual rights, but about a collective vision of a world where every person can live without fear or oppression. Urban Nightscapes – Metropolen im nächtlichen Licht
Wenn die Städte schlafen, beginnt meine Arbeit. In der Dunkelheit erwachen Formen, Lichter und Strukturen, die tagsüber verborgen bleiben. Mit meiner Kamera reise ich durch internationale Metropolen – immer auf der Suche nach dem besonderen Moment, in dem Urbanität und Stille aufeinandertreffen.
Diese Bilder sind keine Dokumentation, sondern ein Gefühl. Sie zeigen nicht nur Orte, sondern erzählen von Atmosphären: vom leisen Puls der Großstadt, vom Glanz der Straßenlichter, vom Zusammenspiel aus Architektur, Schatten und Licht.
Meine nächtlichen Stadtwerke entstehen dort, wo andere nur Dunkelheit sehen. Sie eröffnen einen neuen Blick auf die Realität urbaner Räume.

When the cities fall asleep, my work begins. In the darkness, shapes, lights, and structures emerge that remain hidden during the day. With my camera, I travel through international metropolises—always in search of that special moment where urban life and silence meet.
These images are not documentation—they are emotion. They do not just show places, they tell of atmospheres: the quiet pulse of the city, the glow of streetlights, the interplay of architecture, shadow, and light.
My nighttime cityscapes are created where others see only darkness. They open up a new perspective on the reality of urban spaces.

Eva-Maria Horstick
Since 2005, I have been traveling to Israel on a regular basis—a country that has become a place of deep personal resonance for me. Until 2023, I often spent several weeks there, sometimes even two months. On my self-organized journeys, driving alone through the country, I explored Israel in all its diversity: from Jerusalem’s walls and borders to the Golan Heights, down to Eilat, and across the desert.
My photographs—both analog and digital—emerge from this direct encounter with landscapes, people, and atmospheres. I experience Israel as a place of intense freedom, shaped by strong and confident women and a unique openness that continues to move me. At the same time, I became aware of the complexities of daily life there. Already in 2012, I witnessed how prejudices and tensions can surface—long before the tragic events of 2023 shook the world. This interplay of closeness and distance, fascination and reality, flows into my work. Despite all contradictions, Israel feels like home to me—perhaps more than any other place. My photographic perspective is that of a traveler, a woman, and an observer who loves the country while maintaining a clear and conscious gaze. My images are an expression of this connection, this movement between emotion and reflection. More Images please on request.

Wir lebten nicht „wie andere“, aber vielleicht gerade deshalb so echt. Jeder Tag war ein neues Kapitel, das wir nicht mit Worten, sondern mit Bildern schrieben. Ich habe Freunde, ihn und uns fotografiert, nicht um festzuhalten, sondern um zu verstehen. Um zu zeigen, wie wir waren – wie es mit uns war: sanft, wild, zart. Er studierte in NYC am Lee Strassberg Schauspiel und danach machte er doch etwas ganz anders. Unsere Art, das Leben zu teilen, war intuitiv. Unperfekt. Echt. Marius, meine Freundinnen und Freunde waren mein Spiegel. Durch all das habe ich gelernt, dass Liebe nicht weh tun muss. Was bleibt, sind Bilder. Nicht nur auf Papier, sondern in mir. "Töchter der Erde", einem einzigartigen Fotoprojekt von Künstlerin Arteve Eva-Maria Horstick aus Dortmund. Dieses Projekt widmet sich dem Thema Zukunft und wird durch authentische Portraits sowie tiefgehende Interviews mit inspirierenden Frauen aus verschiedenen Lebensbereichen ergänzt. Hier werden Geschichten erzählt, die zeigen, wie die Stimmen der Frauen von heute die Welt von morgen gestalten können. Ziel war und ist es, nicht nur die Schönheit der Portraitierten einzufangen, sondern auch die Hoffnung, Visionen und Entschlossenheit, die jede von ihnen verkörpert. Here, stories are told that reveal how the voices of today's women can shape the world of tomorrow. The goal has always been not only to capture the beauty of the portrayed women but also the hope, vision, and determination each of them embodies.
